Disabling Automated Updating of Kodi Addons (16.1 Jarvis or Below)

Step 1: Navigate to theĀ SettingsĀ tab under theĀ SYSTEMĀ menu.

Step 2: Select theĀ Add-onsĀ tab on the vertical menu bar.

Step 3: Press theĀ left cursorĀ on your remote control until theĀ View optionsĀ menu pops out.

Step 4: Click on theĀ Auto updatesĀ field untilĀ Auto updates: NotifyĀ is displayed.

Step 5:Ā In the future, youā€™ll may wantĀ to click on theĀ Check for updatesĀ function in order to check for available Kodi addon updates manually.

Step 6: Press theĀ right cursorĀ in order to close the View options menu. Kodi will now prompt you before installing updates when available.

Now you donā€™t have to worry about whatever sketchy repositories youā€™ve installed from other sites potentially hijacking others add-ons that they didnā€™t originally develop. This is also useful if youā€™ve installed a lot of Kodi addons that you donā€™t use, and would prefer not to waste Kodi system resources updating all of them, or the main reason for this post to stop Kodi updating itself to the buggy 17 version until its stable.

Quick update

IĀ didn’t realise that once you successfully blockedĀ KodiĀ from updating itself and then add a build this block goes back to automatically update so this is what I had to do on the Nvidia Shield.

1. use ES File Explorer to installĀ KodiĀ 16.1 as the google store only hasĀ KodiĀ 17 now.

2. BlockĀ KodiĀ as explained above

3. install your Build then power off

4 Once powered onĀ DO NOT RUNĀ KODIĀ Turn off your network first

5 RunĀ Kodi, Let The Beast build it’s menus and then BlockĀ KodiĀ again as explained above.

6. Power offĀ KodiĀ (not your box) Reinstate your network the runĀ Kodi

Thats it you have successfully installedĀ KodiĀ and your build and blocked it so it does not update toĀ KodiĀ 17.

Thank You šŸ™‚ And Have A Great Day.
