Disabling Automated Updating of Kodi Addons (16.1 Jarvis or Below)
Step 1: Navigate to the Settings tab under the SYSTEM menu.
Step 2: Select the Add-ons tab on the vertical menu bar.
Step 3: Press the left cursor on your remote control until the View options menu pops out.
Step 4: Click on the Auto updates field until Auto updates: Notify is displayed.
Step 5: In the future, you’ll may want to click on the Check for updates function in order to check for available Kodi addon updates manually.
Step 6: Press the right cursor in order to close the View options menu. Kodi will now prompt you before installing updates when available.
Now you don’t have to worry about whatever sketchy repositories you’ve installed from other sites potentially hijacking others add-ons that they didn’t originally develop. This is also useful if you’ve installed a lot of Kodi addons that you don’t use, and would prefer not to waste Kodi system resources updating all of them, or the main reason for this post to stop Kodi updating itself to the buggy 17 version until its stable.
I didn’t realise that once you successfully blocked Kodi from updating itself and then add a build this block goes back to automatically update so this is what I had to do on the Nvidia Shield.
1. use ES File Explorer to install Kodi 16.1 as the google store only has Kodi 17 now.
2. Block Kodi as explained above
3. install your Build then power off
4 Once powered on DO NOT RUN KODI Turn off your network first
5 Run Kodi, Let The Beast build it’s menus and then Block Kodi again as explained above.
6. Power off Kodi (not your box) Reinstate your network the run Kodi
Thats it you have successfully installed Kodi and your build and blocked it so it does not update to Kodi 17.
